There are several ways to redirect a domain name to an alternative domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. In case you own a domain and you've developed a website through some online service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and working email addresses with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and in some cases further configuration may be required with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account through the Hepsia CP that comes with each plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added this sort of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have built an Internet site using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take no more than a couple of clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will see a section committed to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted in the account. To set up a CNAME record, you will simply have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type in where the latter is going to be directed to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a few hours. Changing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is just as easy and takes a click.
